Yamatourou
The lantern shown below is made from rock taken from Tsukuba Mountain.
This famous mountain is located about 80km from Tokyo. In Japanese, this
lantern is called yama tourou, which means:
Mountain Lantern
The rock from which these mountain lanterns were made has been left largely
untouched to preserve its natural appearance. Only small parts of the rock were
worked on to ensure a secure stand for the lantern. Because as little carving as
possible was done, you can benefit from the lower price compared to fully carved
lanterns, while enjoying the natural look.
